Acupuncture Can Reduce Pain & Improve Well-being
Pain can manifest in many forms, from headaches to periods and stomach or muscular pain. it can affect all of us. An estimated 85 % of the world's population will experience lower back pain at some stage of their lives. For those affected, quality of life becomes quickly compromised, and finding relief becomes a primary concern.
While many Western forms of medications can offer a temporary solution, the risks of addiction and the side effects of pharmaceutical drugs can be debilitating. Acupuncture provides a natural and powerful alternative. It can act quickly to relieve the impact of acute pain but also be administered safely for an extended period without side effects when the pain becomes chronic.
Why choose Acupuncture for pain Relief?
Acupuncture has many benefits in relieving pain such as :
A Potent non-chemical relief therapy without the associated side effects of chemical drugs.
A holistic way to treat body and mind together for long-term benefits.
A preventative form of medicine that can diagnose and resolve disharmony in the body at an early stage before the onset of pain is manifested.
How Acupuncture Effectively Treats different Types of Pain ?
According to the Traditional Chinese medical framework, the human body is covered by a network of channels called meridians. These channels are supplied by a form of energy called Qi and blood. These channels act as an electrical and magnetic field connecting the skin, muscles, and organs. Health issues such as illness, injuries, or pain occur when the flow of Qi or blood is deficient (disease) or blocked (pain).
The role of acupuncture is to stimulate specific acupuncture points (energy receptors) along the channels affected to restore homoeostasis. From a Western point of view, according to the John Hopkins Medical Institute, “ acupuncture stimulates the Central Nervous System (CNS) to release chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord and brain”.
The action of acupuncture on the nervous system can affect the body in many different ways. For example, medical research has shown that specific acupuncture points can relieve menstrual pain by acting on the Hypothalamus' hormonal regulation in the brain or increase immunity by increasing the level of White Blood Cells(WBC) in the body.
Types of Pain Acupuncture Can Treat
Acupuncture offers a versatile treatment solution for a wide range of pain conditions, whether they are chronic or acute. By targeting specific points in the body, acupuncture helps alleviate pain and addresses the underlying causes to promote long-term relief. Here are two different types of pain that can benefit from our specialised acupuncture treatments:
Chronic Pain
In chronic pain conditions, like Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), acupuncture can reduce the inflammation built up in the joints by clearing heat while stimulating the blood flow into the extremities to flush out the toxins causing swelling and deformities in the fingers. When the condition is incurable, both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can strengthen the body’s natural immunity to slow down the progression of the disease, shorten the duration of the acute pain episodes, and mitigate both the onset and the level of pain.
Acute pain
One must remember that pain is felt in the brain, so for pain to occur, the nerve receptors at the site of the injury must transmit a chemical message to the brain.
The strongest painkillers, like morphine, block nerve transmission through the spinal cord. Research has shown that Acupuncture can reduce pain in the same fashion by acting on the sensory receptors in muscle tissue to block nerve transmission to the spinal cord.
Most acupuncture points contain abundant free nerve endings with various cutaneous (skin) receptors. Different needle manipulation techniques can target receptors that block the nerves’ Alpha and Beta transmission to the nervous system.
When the pain is acute, electroacupuncture can also be very effective. In that modality, electrodes are attached to the acupuncture needles, and an electrical current is activated to target specific A, B, and C nerve fibres.
Personalised Pain Relief Plans
In acupuncture, everything in the body is connected, So even if your problem is only muscular, one must look at how the other body components are also behaving. For example, somebody with a muscular injury on the front of the leg, located on the Stomach channel, will often have associated digestive issues because the whole channel energy transmission is deficient. So, not only does this cause muscle injury, but the corresponding organ on that channel is also affected.
During the consultation, In addition to specific information about your injury, you will be asked questions regarding your digestion, sleep, sensitivity to Cold, and heat, headaches, eyes, ears, skin, immunity circulation, and emotional outlook. This will be followed by palpation of your limbs, abdomen, and pulse.
This will give me a clear picture of your general health and outline areas of weakness that must be corrected during the treatment. As a result, people being treated for back pain often discover that their digestion has improved or that they are sleeping better after an acupuncture treatment.

Frequently asked Questions about Acupuncture for Pain Relief
-
Acupuncture needles are extremely thin ( just a little thicker than a human hair), and most acupuncture points are painless. I believe that your treatment should be relaxing and enjoyable, and practise a form of Japanese acupuncture which is quite delicate. Nevertheless, you might sometimes feel a short pricking sensation for a second or two when the needle is inserted. If you feel uncomfortable at any time, please tell me, and I will remove the needle immediately
-
Acupuncture can treat most forms of internal or muscular pain. Still, if your back pain is caused by a disc displacement that requires manipulation, I will not be able to help you and will instead refer you to a professional with the proper training for your condition.
-
As a general rule, the longer the problem occurs, the longer it will take to improve. In acute conditions, a single treatment can often bring a huge temporary improvement, but two to three treatments will bring longer relief. Most injuries are caused by a specific muscular weakness, which will need to be corrected for long-term recovery, but I will be able to recommend specific exercises for your own conditions
